# A Difficult Financing Road

Small to mid-sized game development studios run into several major problems when trying to fund their games:

1. They often fall victim to predatory publishing contracts, giving up an unreasonable percentage of profits to secure funding— sometimes even after the publisher has recouped the cost of development.
2. Most studios don’t even know where to begin to secure funding for their projects.
3. Crowdfunding the development of indie games comes with a separate host of problems. Depending on the crowdfunding platform, players risk losing money on games that never go to market.
